Do This, Not That: In this class attendees will gain simple tips that add enhancing details that showcase the way you present yourself, your material, and your agency to the public, to partner agencies and more. You will learn common mistakes others make and how to avoid them, both for when you are in person or online. Lastly, you will also gain tools to avoid being baited to say something controversial. It can be a lot when you are balancing a level of transparency, sticking up for your people, and coming out on top, but you can do it!
Learning Objectives:
Attendees will gain a skill of redirection to avoid controversial topics. Often times we can be asked uncomfortable or controversial questions that may seem like we are boxed into a corner, however after this class and some role played scenarios attendees will learn how they can instead of answering a loaded question re-ask their own question and answer that in order to come out successful from those moments.
Attendees will understand the dangers of saying nothing at all. If we are not telling our story then someone else is. Students will gain knowledge to the benefits of having a voice and balancing when and when not to engage.
Attendees will learn from lessons others have already encountered so they don't have to. Whether it is simple things and tips like don't talk with your hands online (when you are on camera (sometimes the lens only picks up your fingers not your hands ), or complex things that we face such as when our agency makes a mistake and how to navigate that.
