For more than 35 years it has been possible to locate people, equipment, and places of importance outdoors using GPS but providing those same services indoors has been a significant challenge, available only to limited audiences when available at all. Only in recent years with hardware and standards convergence has it become practical to pinpoint indoor locations precisely and in real time using affordable, off the shelf solutions. Today we are in the middle of an explosion of choices for driving safety, accountability, efficiency, and awareness for public safety, utilities, schools, hospitals, industrial applications, retail, and many other industries.
