We would like to share our 911 Public Education Program with other 911 or Dispatch Centers. Our program has grown ten fold in the last 10 years and now includes “911 Trainer for Kids”, Staff Tours to our Agencies, Festivals, Fire Prevention Week, Police National Night Out & Job/Career Fairs. We teach this as a Workshop Type class to show how we do it, then open up the floor to share new or old ideas that have worked for others.
Learning Objectives:
After seeing our presentation, other agencies will see how we were able to purchase our modern "911 Trainer for Kids" using a grant with the assistance from our local EMA. This trainer allows kids to both call and/or text using a cellphone.
After seeing our presentation, other agencies will see how reasonably cheap it is to set up all of our displays. The most costly item is generally the overtime paid to our employees to staff these events. After the initial cost, I believe we have spent less than $500 this year on supplies.
After seeing our presentation, other agencies will learn how important it is for our staff to get out and meet the agencies and residents that we serve. I believe this helps with employee retention.
