Will Drewery serves as the Battalion Chief and Emergency Manager for Isle of Wight County, Virginia, overseeing emergency preparedness, response coordination, and public safety operations. With over 20 years of experience in combination volunteer/career fire and EMS systems, he has extensive expertise in emergency response and public safety management.
He holds a master’s degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness from the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and is a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) through the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM). In addition to his role in Isle of Wight County, he serves as the Vice President of the Virginia Emergency Management Association, advocating for policies and practices that enhance emergency management statewide.
Previously, he was the Public Health Emergency Manager for the Virginia Department of Health’s Western Tidewater Health District, where he led the region’s COVID-19 response. His background also includes significant experience in emergency communications, having worked with the City of Richmond’s Department of Emergency Communications and as a 911 center supervisor in Isle of Wight County.
He has led key initiatives to improve interoperability and disaster response, including the acquisition and refurbishment of a mobile command unit through military surplus, now a critical asset for managing incidents and special events across the County. His expertise spans public health, fire and EMS operations, emergency communications, and homeland security, making him a trusted leader in emergency management and public safety.
With a strong commitment to preparedness and resilience, Will works to ensure that first responders and communities have the resources and infrastructure needed to effectively respond to emergencies and disasters.
