Melissa Parker is an accomplished emergency communications professional with over 17 years of experience in 911 operations and emergency management. She is the Airport Operations Center (AOC) Manager at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the world’s busiest and most efficient airport. In this role, she oversees the daily operations of the AOC, ensuring seamless coordination between public safety, emergency response, and airport operations to maintain high standards of service and safety.
Melissa holds a Master of Criminal Justice in Criminal Justice Leadership from the University of Mississippi. She is pursuing her second master’s in Emergency Management at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Homeland Security and Emergency Management from Mercer University, graduating summa cum laude. Melissa was also recognized as a 2022 Harris-Davis Transformational Power of Education Award recipient.
Before her current role, Melissa gained extensive experience as a 911 Communications Supervisor for the Chamblee Police Department and as a Certified Training Officer (CTO) and Dispatcher for the Santa Maria Police Department. In these roles, she led the development of innovative training programs, implemented advanced technologies, and fostered operational excellence.
Melissa holds multiple certifications from FEMA, including the Professional Development Series (PDS), and has achieved a wide range of professional credentials from organizations such as APCO, NENA, and CA POST. Her certifications include NENA's Center Manager Certification Program (CMCP), Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), Tactical Dispatch, and Public Safety Telecommunicator. She is currently enrolled in APCO’s prestigious Registered Public-Safety Leader (RPL) program and is working towards her Georgia Certified Emergency Manager (GA-CEM) designation.
Melissa is actively involved in professional organizations, serving on APCO International's Professional Development Events Committee (PDEC), the Core Competencies Working Group, and Georgia APCO's Professional Development and Events Committee. She is also a member of NENA and other public safety committees, reflecting her commitment to advancing the profession.
