Jeff Lurie is a retired police lieutenant and owner of 38 Seconds Coaching, a public safety leadership and wellness training company. Jeff began his law enforcement career as a police dispatcher and campus police officer in Massachusetts. In 2009, he relocated to Virginia after being hired with the Suffolk, VA Police Department. Jeff was quickly transferred to the Criminal Investigations Division as a detective. He was selected for the SWAT team and a regional all-hazards unit. Jeff maintained one of the highest case clearance rates in the Division and earned the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce Investigative Merit Award. In 2014, he was promoted to sergeant and returned to patrol. He was the team leader for Crisis Negotiations and Mobile Field Force. In 2019, Jeff was promoted to lieutenant. Upon early retirement in 2022, Jeff was the commander of both the Crisis Negotiations Team and Mobile Field Force Team. He's the published author of “Paving Your Path to Policing: The Reality of Recruitment” and recognized as an expert speaker on topics including recruitment, retention, and leadership. He holds a Master of Public Administration with focus in Disaster Management from American Military University. His capstone project “Establishing Mental Wellness for Law Enforcement Officers” serves as a blueprint for his continuing efforts to improve overall wellness initiatives for first responders. Jeff and his wife, Amy, have four children and four dogs. They are avid campers, homeschoolers, and supporters of public safety. Jeff is proudly an Ambassador to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
Jeff has coached successful business owners in the art of recruitment, retention, and leadership development. He assisted with opening nine real estate brokerages in six states. He started 38 Seconds Coaching to bridge the gap between public and private sector business concepts, wellness initiatives, and effective next-generation leadership.
